The notion of having it all togetherI wanted to send us into the weekend on a more real note. Nothing too heavy, but moreso something that we can all take the next few days of down time to reflect on and empower us to start the upcoming week. Sound good? Good.

But before I dive in, I wanted to say thank you so much for all of the sweet comments and reactions to the reveal of the blog’s new visual branding and design. This project was totally a labor of love and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I cannot give Kory enough shout outs and praise for the amazing work she did designing, developing and bringing my vision to life.

The relaunch of the blog and all of the amazing feedback is part of the inspiration behind today’s post. Because in the age of social media, there seems to be this notion that a successful moment equates to a person “having it all together.” I’m here to tell you that’s simply not the case.

No one has it all together all of the time.

One of my favorite parts about my place of work are all of the different women I get to work alongside. Some have been in the working world for decades, others have barely broken the five year mark. All have different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences and I seriously learn something new and valuable every day just from them.

And from where I’m sitting, not even one year post grad and only six months into my first big girl job – everyone looks like they have everything together. All of the time.

But what I’ve come to note is that this illusion comes with time and living. You learn to balance your good with your bad, strengths with your weaknesses. You learn how much coffee it takes to get you through that meeting gracefully, how dark of a lip stick you need to look alive and eventually you start to exude confidence from the inside out.

Not because you necessarily have it all together, but rather because you know yourself.

I stumbled upon the quote above and it totally resonated with me. Sometimes life is pure sweetness and sometimes you get pricked, but there’s still that bit of sweetness to look forward to.

Don’t focus on having it all together, focus instead on knowing yourself and enjoying the sweetness when you can.

Happy Friday!

  1. I can’t wait until I get to the point where I “know myself”. I feel I’m often struggling to get my sh*t together, especially now that I’m not in college anymore. I’m hoping I’ll learn how to get through the day-to-day and find my footing soon.

    1. We’re all trying to get there, even those of us who seem to already be there! Trust me, you aren’t alone! You’ll definitely keep learning and mastering it all as you go!
