I know everyone everywhere keeps asking this question but: how is it already November?! I feel like I blinked and October was basically over. Maybe it’s because I know that the first week of November is going to be stressful, to say the least. Hopefully reading will help distract me and stop me from obsessing over the news and doomscrolling.

I’m also going to be doing NaNoWriMo next month to make a big dent in my novel’s word count. My goal is to write at least 30,000 words, but any progress I make will count as good progress.

You all know I read a ton of fiction, but I also love a good memoir or craft/self help book too. I think that sticking to fiction for the month of November will definitely help keep me productive and focused on my writing! Reading fiction while trying to write usually isn’t an issue for me, but I try to read outside of my genre when I’m in the writing zone. This timing is perfect with NaNo.

Here’s what’s on my Non-Fiction November list! It’s long, and I don’t intend to get to all of them, but I’m glad to have options. Some of these have been on my shelves for years, and some are new releases!

Untamed by Glennon Doyle

Once I Was You by Maria Hinojosa

The Only Plane in the Sky by Garrett M. Graff

Group by Christie Tate

Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow

Overwhelmed by Brigid Schulte

The Creative Curve by Allen Gannett

The Meaning of Mariah by Maria Carey

Heart Talk by Cleo Wade

Here For It by Eric Thomas

The World According to Fannie Davis by Bridgett M. Davis

I know that I won’t get to all of these in November between working, writing and doing other things, but it feels like a solid list to pull from. I’ve spent a lot of time in October working on getting my routines together to make space for more balance in my life. More time to keep up with routines, make healthy meals at home, get enough sleep and, of course, get more reading done.

At the end of the day, reading will always be a major act of self care for me, and it has to be prioritized for me to feel good in any other area.

If you’re planning on joining in on Non-fiction November, let me know what’s on your reading list!

  1. All of these choices look so interesting, definitely adding some to my own list! I’m hoping to get to Brown Album by Porochista Khakpour.
