This week we got a taste of fall weather and it instantly put me in the mood to read!!

Fall has always been, without a doubt, my favorite season and is also an amazing time of year for fresh book releases. So many amazing books have come out already this year, I can’t believe there are still more reads to come! I’m definitely not mad about it!

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out my top 25 most anticipated book releases of the year!! I won’t be repeating any of those releases here… because there are so many more books and authors to highlight! I can’t wait to dig into some favorite authors dropping books I know I’ll love and try out new and new-to-me authors for the first time.

On to the books!

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood

Release date: September 10, 2019

Synopsis: Margaret Atwood’s sequel picks up the story fifteen years after Offred stepped into the unknown, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead.

I started reading The Handmaid’s Tale, but really struggled to visualize the world. Once the show dropped and I was hooked, I knew I would always return to it. Now, I’m excited to give both of these a read and really dig in to the horrible, terrifying world of Gilead.

Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson

Release date: September 17, 2019

SynopsisAn unexpected teenage pregnancy pulls together two families from different social classes, and exposes the private hopes, disappointments, and longings that can bind or divide us from each other, from the New York Times-bestselling and National Book Award-winning author of Another Brooklyn and Brown Girl Dreaming.

I haven’t read any of Jacqueline Woodson’s novels yet, but I’m so excited to explore her work. I recently read a short story written by her and fell madly in love with her storytelling style. The plot of the book sounds right up my alley!

Royal Holiday Jasmine Guillory

Release date: October 1, 2019

Synopsis: Vivian Forest has been out of the country a grand total of one time, so when she gets the chance to tag along on her daughter Maddie’s work trip to England to style a royal family member, she can’t refuse. She’s excited to spend the holidays taking in the magnificent British sights, but what she doesn’t expect is to become instantly attracted to a certain private secretary, his charming accent, and unyielding formality.

Jasmine Guillory is one of my favorite romance authors and an auto-buy author! I loved her first two novels and plan to pick up her third soon (it’s currently in my amazon cart). I absolutely love the characters she creates, especially the way she portrays young black women and the complexities of falling in love.

Commute: An Illustrated Memoir of Female Shame by Erin Williams

Release date: October 8, 2019

Synopsis: An intimate, clever, and ultimately gut-wrenching graphic memoir about the daily decision women must make between being sexualized or being invisible.

I’ve never read a graphic novel before, but the synopsis of these one made me instantly add it to my TBR. As a young single woman living in a big city, I think about every step I talk, sidewalk I walk down and train I step on to after leaving my house. I’m always hyper-aware of my surroundings and know that so many women live the same reality.

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

Release date: October 8, 2019

Synopsis: The mesmerizing adult debut from Leigh Bardugo, a tale of power, privilege, dark magic, and murder set among the Ivy League elite.

I’ve been a huge Leigh Bardugo fan for years and I’m so excited to read her first adult novel! I’ve been slowly making my way through all of her YA series and just love the way she builds worlds. Even when the plots don’t mesh with me, or even when I’m not a fan of the characters, her writing style and world building keeps me hooked.

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren

Release date: October 22, 2019

Synopsis: From the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners and the “delectable, moving” (Entertainment Weekly) My Favorite Half-Night Stand comes a modern love story about what happens when your first love reenters your life when you least expect it…

If you’ve been a blog reader for a while, you know that Christina Lauren is my all time favorite author duo! I’ve read almost all of their recent releases and pretty much autobuy all of their books. They write such funny, charming, and realistic romance with characters you can’t get enough of!

A River of Royal Blood by Amanda Joy

Release date: October 29, 2019

Synopsis: An enthralling debut perfect for fans of Children of Blood and Bone set in a North African-inspired fantasy world where two sisters must fight to the death to win the crown.

I’ve been on a huge YA fantasy kick over the past few months and this sounds like the book I’ve been waiting for! I’m so excited to see another African inspired fantasy novel after the success of Children of Blood and Bone (which I loved). I love a good fantasy with future queens fighting for their crowns! The synopsis of this reminded me of Three Dark Crowns, another series I’m obsessed with.
