Would you travel alone?Have you ever taken, or considered taking, a trip by yourself? Someplace far (however you define far) and likely foreign? Let’s talk….

I’ve had the travel bug for a while now. There are so many places I like to see, experience, visit and maybe even stay longer. Not to mention, so many foods I neeeeed to try!

But one thing about being on the lower side of your twenty-somethings, having friends all in the same mental, adventurous and financial space is a challenge. Not everyone will want to see Spain at the same time that you do, or spend a long weekend in Toronto.

Managing desires, expectations, budgets and schedules gets hard fast and before you know it, the window to book a trip has passed.

So with all of that in mind, my question for you all today is: have you ever traveled solo? Or considered it?

If you have, please send me all of your tips, tricks, resources or favorite articles! Tell me the good, bad and downright terrifying aspects of solo travel. Would you ever do it again? How long would you say is too long to wander sans travel buds?

And if you haven’t, but have maybe considered it, what’s holding you back? Shoot me an email or put your thoughts in the comments, I’m curious to know!

  1. I travel solo at least 50% of the time (or more!) and absolutely love it. I can do what I want, when I want…and don’t have to depend on anyone else. You definitely need to do it!!!

  2. Flying solo is a lot of what I will be doing this year as I have already booked 3 trips so far and it’s just me, myself, and I going. this will be my first time traveling by myself so I’m kind of scared but more excited as what Jordan said, I will be able to do what I want when I want and not having to depend on no one else. It’s so many articles that I can send you on WHY it’s important to travel by yourself and the importance of it.

  3. I love traveling alone. So far, the furthest I’ve been solo is London, but it was a great time. I did a lot of research beforehand so I would know what I wanted to do & what my options were, but beyond that, it was actually really laid-back because I just… did whatever *I* wanted to do.

  4. I have traveled around the world solo many times! I feel like it’s the most exhilarating thing ever. I traveled to Japan back in 2011 after the Tsunami, so of course, I did a lot of research before leaving. You always want to choose a place to stay that is in a well populated area, you contact banks, phone providers let them know where you’re going etc. There are sooo many tips I could give!

But most importantly have fun when doing it! 😀

  5. I moved to Paris by myself for 3 months to live…. the same year I married my Husband and left him back in Australia! I absolutely loved it (after a while). The only thing that actually made me do it was I bought the one way ticket that wasn’t refundable so then I knew I couldn’t chicken out. It was the most liberating and exciting trip I have ever taken. I realised how much I usually rely on others (my husband mostly) to ask questions when we are in foreign countries and take the lead. Doing it yourself is so freshing… you wake when you want, eat when and where you want… and it’s so fullfilling. Take the plunge, you won’t be disappointed =)

  6. I travel alone all the time, but flying? Probably not. I hate heights, so I’m not totally inclined to hop on a plane by myself. Or at all.

  7. I got the courage to take my first solo trip about a month ago to Grand Cayman. It was my first international trip out of the country and my only regret is that I hadn’t traveled solo much sooner.

To me, traveling solo really helped build my confidence because it forced me to depend on and trust myself and only myself for the time that I was away in a new country. IT was also freeing especially since I was able to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, without having to consult with anyone.

Personally, I highly recommend that you try it. Even if you’re not interested in traveling solo for the first time internationally, or if you are, just give it a try. I completely understand how frustrating it can be to try to get a travel partner that actually shows up. If you want to go somewhere, I say.. don’t wait and just go. (:
