How is June almost over?! HOW?!
This Summer is already flying by and as I mentioned, it’s been a pretty full season for me in all good ways. Including my reading.
I’ve definitely been in a bit of a writing slump lately, hence why I’m just getting my May reading list up at the end of June…opps. But when my writing takes a hit, my reading is usually on an incline. Reading and escaping into a good book is definitely a form of self care for me.
I finished six books in total in May!
Amanda Wakes Up by Alisyn Camerota
Rating: 3.5/5
What I liked/disliked: I really loved the main character (I usually like reading about people who work in media) and the topic was certainly timely. The side characters weren’t my favorites. I also thought the writing was really well done and the audio book was fantastic. In the end, it was a good read and I’d recommend it for anyone looking for an interesting contemporary.

Stay with Me by Ayobami Adebayo
Rating: 4.5/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: This book has gotten lots of hype for good reason. The writing is absolutely breath taking. The plot is full of wonderfully dark twists and turns that I couldn’t get enough of. I definitely could not have predicted the ending. Some parts made me laugh out laugh, audibly gasp and cry. A beautiful book that does a lot in its short pages.

Roomies by Christina Lauren
Rating: 4/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: My first time reading this author duo left me super impressed! I’ll be reading other works by them for sure. I loved the characters and even though I don’t tend to like this kind of love story, I was totally here for Calvin and Holland!

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Rating: 5/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: This book was so great! While there are a few things I wish were done better (namely instalove…my least favorite trope) I thought this book was so well done! The world building and magic systems are fantastic. The characters are complex and well done. The plot is interesting throughout. And then ending!! It almost ruined me. I reread the last 30 pages like 10 times because I couldn’t believe what was happening.

A Court of Thrones and Roses by Sarah J Maas
Rating: 4/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: Never in a million years did I think I’d enjoy this book as much as I did. I couldn’t put it down and while the romances and relationships are cringey, I became SUPER addicted to this book! I can’t wait to start book two. The villain in the story is one of the worst villains I’ve ever read (totally unbelievable and under developed) but it’s a great, trashy NA/YA fantasy.

Love the One You’re With by Emily Giffin
Rating: 4/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: Emily Giffin books just make you feel good! The characters are always real and flawed and their decision making will drive you crazy and make you root for them. One of my favorite books of all time is an Emily Giffin novel. I picked this up because I needed a light stress reliever and it delivered! I loved the premise and thought it was super real.

What was the best book you read last month?
My reading rhythm went down at the beginning of 2018 as I was finishing up my last semester of undergrad, and I was also less involved in the blogosphere in general. I realised that reading helps my blog writing in a very direct way, as my blog posts aren’t very informational, but rather more like little stories from my life. Since graduating, I’ve been getting myself back into the reading rhythm and I’m feeling good! I just started Scythe by Neal Shusterman (on my TBR since forever it feels like) and I’m really enjoying it so far. Added Stay with Me to my TBR, thanks for the rec! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
I think I’ll start Scythe on my next plane ride! Congrats on finishing undergrad! That’s major 🙂
