In my experience, the men in my life can be the hardest to shop for. My dad always claims to want nothing only to reveal months after Christmas or his birthday that he actually needed very specific things. Super fun.
When I doubt, I always say a gift card to a store they frequent goes a long way. Sometimes I think we work a bit too hard to find someone the perfect gift when what they really want is the time and space to grab something for themselves at their leisure.
