Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson
Rating: 5/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: Tiffany D. Jackson can do no wrong in my book. I loved Monday’s Not Coming and I loved this book just as much. I wrote a full review gushing about it earlier last month. Also note that the review, and the novel, contains several content warnings.

The Roommate by Rosie Danan
Rating: 3.5/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: When I saw everyone posting about this super steamy romance read, I knew I had to pick it up. I think this book does a lot well. It’s entertaining, well paced and very, very steamy. I don’t think that the book achieved its overall goal of centering women and women’s pleasures as well as it set out to do. That being sad, it was great to see a book portray sex workers in this light, and I hope the genre continues to push norms in this way.

The Women’s War by Jenna Glass
Rating: 4/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: The premise of this book was super exciting for me, and I loved reading it so much. I thought the world was unique and easy to envision. Think handmaid’s tale meets old school magical fantasy world. I’m excited to see how the story continues in the series. I really hope that the sequel de-centers the men in the story even more. Such a strong feminist premise deserves to have the strong female characters, and there are many here, run the narrative. I enjoyed the writing style and each chapter definitely kept me hooked throughout the book.

Self-Care by Leigh Stein
Rating: 3/5 stars
What I liked/disliked: This was another book that seemed to take over my Instagram feed! And for good reason, the cover is stunning. This book does a great job of shedding light on exactly what’s wrong the wellness community as we know it. It’s super white, very toxic and has been very commodified. I thought the ending was a bit rushed, and I wished one of the side characters, the only Black character, had gotten more attention to her story and a more solid, less convenient resolution. The writing was super strong.

What’s the best book you read last month? Let me know in the comments!
