Hi everyone, I’m back from a much needed long weekend with another Tuesday To-do. Is it just me, or do you find that after an extended weekend, it’s even harder to get back into work mode.
For me, this is my last few days at my current job before I move on to a new venture with Visit Philadelphia. I couldn’t be more excited, but I definitely need to work and get ahead of myself to supplement the transition period.
Today’s to-do is a bit different than previous ones, as it focuses more on a lifestyle change than a simple productivity task. Have you ever fully intended to jump into the days work, only to be set back trying to put yourself together. Wondering if this outfit works for the meeting you have or if a certain shoe will accommodate 8 hours logged in a coffee shop?
I’ve been there, and when I’m ready to get to work, the last thing I want to get stuck doing is trying to piece together an outfit that’s functional, comfortable and stylish. So to combat this, I’ve assembled a group of outfits I call my go-to uniforms. No matter where I’m working or what I’m doing, I know I can reach for these pieces and be good to go.
It’s a simple thing to do, that saves so much time in the long run and let’s you focus on doing the work. Simply take note of the clothing in your current wardrobe that meet your requirements for a work outfit. The pieces should be comfortable, stylish and functional –something you feel good in that can convert from meeting to happy hour works best for me.
Once you’ve identified these key items, put them to the side away from other pieces so you don’t waste time searching for them. It’s best to dedicate a set space to make them easy to reach for whenever you need them.
Most of my go to items include basics like simple shirts and moveable pants and skirts in dark or neutral colors. This way, I don’t have to put a ton of thought into accessorizing or bringing an outfit together.
Sometimes I wish my whole wardrobe was black so that it’d be easier to match everything, but I love colour too much! I always think, “ooh this piece will be a nice pop of colour!” and then “ooh so will this piece!” and before you know it, my whole wardrobe is a pop of colour 😛 I love the idea of setting aside your staples! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
