Goals, August 2014(image source)

I cannot believe how fast these summer months are flying! I remember feeling this way at the end of last July as well. I guess time really flies when you’re rebranding a blog and soaking up sweet free time.

August is a huge month for me. The start of my final year of college, the year in which I happen to be taking on the most responsibility since I started. This time next year, I’ll be an actual, real world adult with a bachelor’s degree. What?! So soon!?

I won’t sugar coat anything, July was a rough month for me. I went through –and I’m still going through, a really strange and difficult transition and dealing with a lot of personal challenges. My greatest high this month was launching E&M. I have loved every moment of presenting this blog into the online world, and am so grateful for the amazing support and praise everyone has given the blog. I’m so excited for the future of this blog & brand.

Last month, my goals were aimed at looking forward. Let’s recap…

July Recap

– Look into freelance writing opportunities. DONE! I’ve already begun to reach out to different communities where I can contribute my writing, and I can’t wait to share.

– Be intentional about health + wellness. This one wavered. I definitely made better choices whenever I could, but certain times this month called for more chips and less kale.

– Create a sustainable budget. I’ve been reading so many awesome articles on ways to cut back on expenses and monitor my spending. I’m calling this one a job well done. I’ll definitely be sharing my tips as I move on in my budgeting journey.

– Start thinking about business cards. DONE! I’ve even made a Pinterest board filled with inspiration and I think I’ll be ready to start designing and send my own off to print soon enough!

August: Soaking Up the Present

I’ve said a few times that I’m not ready for August, but I think this is because I’m focusing so hard on what’s to come, and not paying enough attention to the day-today. This month, I’m setting goals to help me hone on what’s happening now.

01 / Back to slower blogging. When I launched E&M, I knew I wanted to take advantage of summer free time and post as many times during the week as possible. Now that August is here and school will be back in full swing within weeks, it’s time to return to a more modest posting schedule of 3-4 times per week. I’m still making some final adjustments to my editorial calendar to help keep me organized.

02 / More early mornings. I’m naturally an early riser, but I’ve been know to hit snooze way more than I should during the work week. I want to consistently wake up at the same time so that I can take my time and enjoy every bit of the morning before I stop to tackle email and social.

03 / Morning and evening yoga. I started implementing a few yoga poses into my nighttime routines earlier this summer, and it definitely helped me relax before bed. I want to use my early morning time and some pre-bedtime moments to put these stretches back into play and spend more time reflecting and meditating.

What are your goals for the month? How did you do with your goals from last month?

  1. What a nice post! Excellent structure. I hope you are able to achieve your goals this month and wish you happy August! ps. your blog is awesome!

    1. Business cards will be for networking! Having something tangible to share at blogging events or with other freelancers. I can share more on that process, if you’re interested 🙂

  2. I’m totally right there with you on the yoga! I used to do it before bed a few years ago, and then I started back to school ( ugh ) and got out of the routine. However, hopefully I can keep it up now that I’m done!

  3. I cannot wait until my doctors clears me for exercise (after my c-section) so I can start doing yoga again. My back is crying for it! It’s so relaxing and good for my muscles and back spasms! I have this awesome iPad app called “Yoga Builder” and you can build your own yoga routines and you can even have the “narrator” count the holds or tell you how to breathe, etc. Totally recommend it!

  4. I really wanted to finally buy my business cards this paycheck, but I had to get my eyes checked out. I can’t wait to see yours! Good luck with school starting! This is my first fall since I graduated and it’s gonna be weird to not have to go to school! 0.0
