Between social media and the blogging world, everyone seems to have their lives together. Everyone, except me, and maybe you too.
While everyone else manages to start their morning with the perfect avocado toast plate and dashes from cab to curb in sky high heels with grace and ease, I’m running down the street munching a rice cake in flats, heels in bag until the last possible moments.
Every morning and moment isn’t made for Instagram, friends.
We should all be aiming to maintain happy, healthy and balanced lifestyles. Easy access to how everyone else lives, no matter how much we try to deny or fight against the grain, puts us at a major disadvantage. We think that well balanced lives equate to perfect lives.
Balance does not mean perfect!
[Tweet “Living a balanced lifestyle does NOT mean aiming for false perfection”]And more importantly, balance does not look the same for everyone. For me, balance sometimes looks like walking home from work to make up for the fact that I’ve been ordering takeout nonstop. Or sliding the iPad under my pillow and grabbing a book since I’ve already stayed up past my bedtime.
You can live a healthy and balanced lifestyle without taking a cult spin class, suffering through that salad you hate or convincing yourself you want coconut milk in your coffee because #superfood.
Balance in real life might look like plotting every detail of the week down in your planner only to nix it all for a spontaneous date night or happy hour with friends.
Some mornings, I wake up early, get a jump start on the day’s work; pick out a great outfit and even do a face mask during the process. Other morning’s I sleep in, pour my coffee into a travel mug, toss those heals and a yogurt in a bag and head out the door.

I love that second quote: “Balance is a healthy blend of the good and the bad.” 😀 For some reason, I think it’s quite common to believe that balance is just all good; maybe a moderate amount of good all-around, but no worse than that. -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
I think my balanced morning, is waking up early to properly wash my face, and have a stressless morning/drive to work. But there were times where I was forgoing washing my face, throwing things my bag and rushing out the door, busy, busy, busy right? I can say that seeing those “perfect” pictures on instagram pleases the my ‘perfection aesthetic’ and also chuckling while wondering how many shots it took them to get that ‘perfect instagram’ shot

Oh, Amber! You are so damn right. I struggled with this for awhile until a couple years ago when I startled to live a more mindful life. Just by taking a moment or two to actually live in the moment… whatever that moment might be!
Last year I was invited to a grand opening to a coffee shop along with a ton of other Instagrammers. That day was a turning point for me. Seeing all of these people order coffee, spend ( no lie! ) half an hour photographing it… even making their friends “pose” or not take sips of the coffee they had just ordered. It was sickening and so sad. The “Instagram Life” is far from authentic as you could possibly get. And I think it’s important for people to realize that.
A balanced life to me is just being happy and doing the things ( both big and small ) that makes you feel good.
Seriously, loved this post of yours, girl! SO good.
“Balance in real life might look like plotting every detail of the week down in your planner only to nix it all for a spontaneous date night or happy hour with friends.”
That sums up my life and I absolutely love it!
Balance for me is to get a few Things done everyday but also living with eyes widely open to grab chances spontaneously and also listen to my Body. When I have a bad day I enjoy looking grumpy and others and when I Need a chocolate and netflix Weekend I really Party myself because I do not stress about it, but just chill.
Really love this post, happy Sunday!
