In the past few months, I’ve been looking to get back into a good morning flow. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you know that I live for a good, productive morning.
I’m naturally an early riser and love starting the day without having to hustle and rush into work mode. An easy, slow approach to the day helps me get my mind together and be more productive overall through the day.
So to get out of my lack of routine morning funk, I’ve been making small changes and adjustments to have happier, healthier mornings (and days, too).
If you’re a morning person looking to add a little boost to the start of the day, or just want some healthier habits to incorporate into your day, then these are for you!
01. Get a workout in
I bet most of us want to get a little more time in the gym. I definitely have my hand raised. Once I’m up and out of bed in the morning, I find I’m much more motivated to workout than after a full day’s work. If you do think making it all the way to the gym before work is feasible, try an at home workout. I love doing this one by Fitness Blender.
02. Grab a book
Instead of reaching for your phone first thing in the morning, grab a book instead! You’ve been amazed at how many books you’ll be able to get through just by reading for 15-30 minutes in the morning. I recommend keeping the book you’re reading outside of the bedroom, and not reading in bed so you aren’t tempted to go back to sleep!
03. Meditate or pray
If you know your going to have a chaotic day, starting the morning off in prayer or meditation is the perfect way to prepare your heart and mind for what’s to come. If you need a burst of positivity, clarity and brightness in your day then I highly recommend adding this to your routine. You can start easily by purchasing a daily devotional to guide you or writing down a list of affirmations.
04. Make and eat breakfast
I’ve probably said 1,000 times on the blog how important I think it is to start the day with a good breakfast. Whether you prep it the night before or blend a quick smoothie before heading out, the first thing you put into your body will definitely impact the rest of your day (and how healthy of a choice you make for lunch!).
05. Journal/ write morning pages
My head always feels so clear once I get any lingering thoughts I have down on paper. Once those are out of the way, I can focus on what I have to do. Mornings are also a great time to write your to-do list, goals and intentions for the day.
06. Make the bed!
I’ve saved the easiest and perhaps most important for last! Almost any list you read that features healthy habits all successful people do will include making the bed. Why? Because when you start the day by following through, completing something, and putting something in its right state, it impacts how you finish everything else. If you can make the bed, you can get to the gym, clear your inbox and jump start that project with ease. Just do it!
What healthy habits are you incorporating into your morning routine? And if you’re more the night owl, what do you do in your nightly routines to keep yourself healthy and productive?
Book, breakfast, and bed are three things I’ve been actively trying to incorporate into my morning routine this 2017! 😀 I’ve been an early bird lately, but idk if that’s the jetlag. I wouldn’t mind if it stuck around though! In the evening, if I feel my eyes start wandering, my mind losing focus, perhaps even my head about to start lightly throbbing, I’ll call it a day and go to bed. If I have enough energy to, I’ll sneak in a few pages of my book before falling asleep! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
So, I am most definitely not a morning person. Mostly because I have to be at work at 7:30am with an hour and a half commute lol. However, I’ve been looking for ways to make my morning transition a little easier on my brain. I’ll be taking tips 2 & 3 and see how I can make them work in my morning routine. Plus I can always have my first cup of coffee while reading or praying lol. Loved this! Thanks for the tips!
