Another month, another reader q&a! I know I say this every month, but I really love putting these posts together and answering your questions. Just as I started to put this month’s post together, I started to get an influx of questions, mainly via Instagram, about creating content.
I didn’t want to bump any of the questions here, so I think next month’s Q&A will be geared towards more content creation questions. Just a heads up! But for now, onto this month’s reader Q&A…
Bookish
Q:What’s your favorite book of all time? Do you have one?
I don’t think I could ever pick just one, but I definitely have favorites in each genre. My favorite middle grade novel is Esperanza Rising, mainly for sentimental reasons but also because it’s a great story. Harry Potter is, of course, a longtime fave. I have some favorite authors, that I’m working on a separate post about!
Q: What do you do with books you don’t like?
I’m pretty good at knowing how I’ll feel about a book before I commit to buying. I’ll check out a few reviews for books or authors I’m unfamiliar with. If I’m still not sure, I’ll check it out from the library instead of purchasing. If there’s a book I was wrong about that I’ve purchased, I’ll either sell it to my used bookstore or donate it to the library.
Q: How do you decide when to buy a book vs. when to borrow it from the library?
I love using my local library and I’m lucky to have a great one! If I love a book and know I’ll want to reread it, then I buy a copy. If it’s a book that was okay but not one I want to revisit, I’ll check out a copy. I do this a lot with first books in series. Checking out the first book before deciding to commit to the series.
Q: How do you keep up with new book releases?
Goodreads! They come out with lists of new releases typically broken down my month. Here’s one for November. Also, watching a lot of booktube videos.
Career and Hustle
Q: Besides a bullet journal, can you recommend any other planning products?
Prior to bullet journaling, I’ve used the Happy Planner which I wrote about on the blog. I really loved that planner and if I did go back to using a premade planner, it would likely be that one.
Q: What jobs and internships have you had before your current 9-5.
I wrote about my first seven jobs here! But to sum it up quickly: all of my internships were PR/social media focused at either museums or agencies while I was in college. After I graduated, I worked for my alma mater doing digital marketing and social media –which I loved! After about a year there, I moved onto Visit Philly where I started out doing PR then moved into a social media production role.
Q: What projects are you working on that you’re the most excited about?
Honestly, this blog! I have some site updates coming soon that I’m so excited to roll out. I want to do more sponsored content to help up the production value of posts and videos and what you guys see on social. I’m working to bring back the At Work With series in the next few months and have a podcast in my head that I just need to nail down a plan for.
Q: I’m struggling to figure out what my “thing” is. How do you learn what you’re good at? How do you find a passion?
I could, and likely will, write a full post on this. But for starters, you have to be continually exploring your interests. What do you like? What are you good at? You’ll never know until you start trying new things and hobbies. Five years ago, I never would have been the person who reads so much. Or that I’d love cooking or bookstores or photography as much as I do. I realized my love and knack for writing because week after week, I showed up to this little online “blog thing” (as my parent used to call it) and shared my thoughts with the internet. So if something sparks your interest, try it. And if you hate it, cool. Try something else.
Life and the blog
Q: When you aren’t working or blogging, what do you do? What are your hobbies?
Obviously reading is a big one. To be honest, I work a lot. At my 9-5 and on my own projects. So when I do have free time, I lean in deeply to doing absolutely nothing. Like, beyond nothing. You’ll find me curled up on my dad’s couch, either reading or watching mindless reality television and waiting for him to cook something great. I value my nothing time immensely.
Q: Has your dating situation changed (for better or worse) since you posted that dating blog?
Ahh yes, that post. In short, yes it has changed and yes it is better. I can’t promise that I’ll give any more details on that anytime soon, because it’s only half my story to share.
Q: Will you write more on body image, confidence, and things like that in the coming months?
Yes, absolutely!
