Question: what are your little things? The past few weeks have been filled with ups and downs for me. A few too many emotional moments, even for a highly sensitive person like myself.

Have you ever had one of those days/weeks/months (I hope not longer) where it seems that once you start to cope and deal with one fire, another sparks up? Consider that the vast majority of my May and June. Here’s to bluer skies in July…

With so much happening, and life being un-pausable, finding those small things that are easy to take hold of to find some extra joy have been my life rafts. It doesn’t take much to treat yourself, and the smallest things can often make the largest impact on your current outlook.

I have a few staple things I reach for when I need a little pick me up

  • A quick phone call with my dad or trip home for the weekend
  • Making a healthy meal for myself
  • Taking 15 minutes for a face mask
  • Fresh flowers in the living room
  • A long shower with a warm candle burning in the bathroom

None of these things are incredibly extravagant or luxury items, but they’ve been big players in my world lately. It all boils down to taking care of yourself. Giving yourself time and pampering and taking a mental break from constant overthinking and burn out.

  1. I hope July treats you better! It seems like exciting things are happening in your career, but that doesn’t mean anything if you’re not happy yourself! It’s so important to practice self-care, especially when you’re not feeling so great, but also when you are. I also like cooking up a good meal or munching on fruits or treating myself to coffee or getting lost in a book 🙂 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

    1. Thanks Audrey! Things are already looking up. I have so much to be grateful for and the good totally outweighs the bad 🙂

  2. Oh petal, I hope things start to look up for you soon.

I love your list of ways to put a smile back on your face. I also find that even just a quick call to my parents, really does put a spring back in my step. I like to get outside and walk around, I’m lucky to live near some gorgeous countryside, and I find that a brisk walk clears the cobwebs out of my busy head. And escaping into a book is a great way to ignore the current mess of life around me and to just live in another world for a while ; )

    Sending you best wishes!

    1. Yes to good books! I’ve added tons of great reads to my bookshelf that I can’t wait to pour through. Thanks for the positive vibes 🙂

  3. Yes! I’ve been feeling this so, so much lately. More than I would like to. It’s been a real struggle. Exercise use to be my outlet, but I felt so overwhelmed yesterday at my dance class, I left in the middle of it because I just needed a break. I hope July gets better for you! 🙂

    1. Aww, I’m sorry you’re having trouble finding your thing. I hope you’re able to find something that helps build you back up and restores some ease to life. Hoping July is good to you, too!

  4. Love this. My little things are a warm compress, a soy chai, a hot shower, a Harry Potter book, & putting on clean sheets. Hope things have been looking up for you since you wrote this!
