Life Lately / And Yes To JoyIt’s almost the official start of Summer! Can you believe it? This is how my days and weeks have been flowing lately…

(Left to right, row by row.)

One / We are in the middle of a heat wave here in Philadelphia, which calls for lots of buns and up-dos to help keep cool. Have you ever noticed how when you need them most, bobby pins and hair ties seem to disappear? I bought a 500 pack not too long ago, and now I’m down to about 40. Did I really misplace over 400 bobby pins?!

Two / I’ve been trying to make the apartment I’m subletting feel more like home. It’s hard because I know it’s so temporary -I’ll only be there til August, and then it’s off to (another) new place. I do love how open and light the room gets, and the way the walls look as the sun is getting. I do much more relaxing than working in the apartment, I’ve been sticking to coffee shops and other work spaces to get things done.

Three / I set my room up so that my bed sits right under one of the big windows. I love waking up and being surrounded by morning sun, or having a big moon be the last thing I see before I head to sleep. Big windows and natural light is a must for my perfect post-grad apartment.

Four / Getting back into the gym and practicing simple healthy habits has definitely inspired me to really push my limits. I’ve been working on practicing simple yoga poses and doing one full yoga workout per week. Sometimes it results in me sitting on my floor, wondering how on earth the woman in the video has so much control over her movements. I’m enjoying the new journey, regardless; and trying something new is always fun.

Five / Lists on lists on lists. Between preparing for the rebrand and winding down the last bits of my summer class, I’ve been taking notes and making lists like crazy. I love going back and looking at all of the things I’ve crossed off and accomplished over the weeks. It feels really satisfying. I hope to have the new blog up and ready by the end of June (which is fast approaching).

What’s been going on with you, lately?

  1. NC currently feels like a 1000 degree sauna so I know exactly how you feel about needing to keep your hair up lol I cant wait to see the new site!!

  2. Yes for the past couple of weeks my hair has been up in some form or fashion lol. They don’t call it Hotlanta for nothing. I think this where a protective style comes into play!

  3. You’re not the only one-my bobby pins keep running from me too! And I remember being able to buy a massive pack from target back in the gap. Now they only have packs of like 50. I’m going to have to start hitting up the beauty supply.

Houston is pretty hot too-we’ve got heat + massive humidity. Taking 3 showers a day during the summer is pretty standard here. My hair has been in an afro puff for the past two weeks!! I can’t wait to see your new site!

  4. I think it’s so important to make any place you’re staying feel like home! It must be tempting to just live out of a suitcase or a box, but I’m all about actually making things cozy! And I agree that natural light is an absolute must.

  5. I am sooo excited for your rebrand! You don’t even know, I keep checking back to see if today is the day! Also, let me know more on how you like yoga. It’s something I’ve always wanted to be into but I’m clumsy and not flexible and just all around not good at it. Do you do free workouts online or dvds or what? I have done a few routines from doyouyoga.com before.
