I cannot believe it’s already March! February may be the shortest month of the year but I still, somehow, managed to read 7 books.

Getting sick at the start of the month did nothing for my productivity but was great for my reading list! In between downing cold medicine and tea and binging hours worth of Downton Abbey, I was reading like crazy!

I really enjoyed the books I reached for in February. It was a good mix of new and familiar reads that I needed to push through the month.

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Rating: 3.5/5 stars

What I liked/disliked: The plot and characters of this book were amazing. I loved how many levels of Chinese culture it delved into, a nod to it being an owned voices book. I thought our main characters were wonderful and so likeable! I did feel that the ending dragged on and the book couldn’t been a bit shorter. I’ll definitely continue the series.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling

Rating: 5/5 stars

What I liked/disliked: Whenever I’m going through a rough patch, I read for Harry Potter to help calm me down and take me back to my childhood. It works every time and I doubt that I will ever fall out of love with these books.

Red Clocks by Leni Zumas

Rating: 3.75/5 stars

What I liked/disliked: The synopsis of this book is what really drew me in. A dystopian future similar to handmaid’s tale? YES! And while I thought the writing was beautiful and the characters were complex and interesting, the writing style definitely detracted from the plot for me. I’m going to do a full review on this one, soon!

Sex Object by Jessica Valenti

Rating: 4/5 stars

What I liked/disliked: I listened to this on audiobook and finished it in a few hours. It was such a good, sad and interesting take on one woman’s experiences living as an object of (often unwanted) male attention. Some of the moments in the book were startling and too many were too relatable. It was a great read and I definitely recommend men and women picking this up.

Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuck

Rating: 4/5 stars

What I liked/disliked: Another audiobook I listened to in a few hours. This book is definitely a little outdated now, as so much has changed with social media and the online space. But so many things Gary calls out and predicts are still true and important to digital content creators today. And his passion and encouragement is incredibly motivating.

5 to 1 by Holly Bodger

Rating: 3/5 stars

What I liked/disliked: I think knowing this was more of a novella would have helped my overall reader experience. Overall, I thought the plot was really good and the storyline kept me reading. I wish I could have made more of a connection to the characters, and a longer novel would have allowed that. If you enjoyed the hunger games, you’d enjoy this!

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

Rating: 4/5 stars

What I liked/disliked: I’ve officially read almost everything Rainbow Rowell has written, she’s one of my all time favorites. This book was charming, funny and had characters that made you want to be on their side. Rowell is good for that. I would read this book again for sure, but I do think it could have been about 50 pages shorter and made a connection to the ending sooner.

  1. Crazy Rich Asians was such a fun/light/quick read! You’ve maintained such a good rhythm with your reading habits ^-^ In February I read two books and dropped one. My favourite read of the month was a non-fiction book I had to read for class about design (Don’t Make Me Think! by Steve Krug) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

  2. Working through Crazy Rich Asians right now and enjoying it! All for the own voices movement and especially excited for the Crazy Rich Asians movie that’s coming out later this year starring Constance Wu. Been working my way back to books and the library lately so in the middle of quite a few books but I especially enjoyed Sherwin Nuland’s How We Die. It is an intimate look at the culture around death and medicine throughout history from the view of a doctor.

  3. I know Rainbow Rowell gets a bit of a bad rap since so many of her characters are similar, but I think that’s why I enjoy her writing so much. I relate to all of them. I need to read Crazy Rich Asians soon, especially because it’s going to be a movie!
